A photo a day, doctors far away.

I am fond of taking some shots before going home. It is a way to stretch my legs and release the eye muscles after much exposure to the computer at the workplace.

Have been posting shots of the kind in this forum for some time. It seems better to nail these shots to one place to denote the kind of activities that are being done.

An apple a day, doctors far away. In photography, the equivalent is the photo. A photo a day, doctors can be far away as well. You perspire as you walk. Your blood circulation speeds up as you hasten your steps for your destinations.

Here is what I have for this evening.

1    Some corners at the Antique Office at TST. Shots taken with D200 and f1.8 AFD 50mm Nikkor

In 7, I mentioned of a DIY cabled shutter release device that was made for my Nikon CP8400 for digiscoping purposes. Here is a shot showing how the device looks like. The shot was taken with a D200 and an AFD 60mm Macro Nikkor

The book says that this one is still not yet ready for breeding as shown by the simplicity of its plumage. The other two are wearing breeding plumage.

Nearby where I live, there is a place where fishboats berth. Took my gear there at about 5:30pm and got these.

Taken with Swarovski 80 HD STM, 30x-eyepiece and Nikon CP8400

Swarovski's 30x-eyepiece is good glass. Another that is equally good is the 45x. With digiscoping becoming more and more popular in the last 2-3 years, Swarovski revised its 20-60x eyepiece and released the 25-50x about 2 years ago, I think, claiming that the optical quality is much better than the former one. I have not the opportunity to use neither of them. Have the feeling that the 20-60x has already been good enough.

Swarovski also produced an 20x eyepiece but it is relatively less popular compared to the other four. I don't have the opportunity to use it as well.

I have a 30x and a 45x. The following shot was taken with the 45x.

Nikon P5100 is a superb camera for digiscoping. Sometimes, I would use it to snap after work. Here is one shot I took at Ngau Tau Kok using the camera. It was the first time I saw women doing facial dressing at such a remote location. Without doubt, it must be women who have come of age who will do this kind of facial at such kind of place. Shot taken on June 10, 2009.

As have said, I used the P5100 for digiscoping. I sold this out in early 2010 and popped into Ricoh GXR, hoping that it could help me with digiscoping through some of the latest technologies that Ricoh has attained in its GXR. The reality is GXR is not as good as P5100, not to mention my working horse for digiscoping, the Nikon CP8400.

The following is a shot taken at Mui Shu Hang 梅樹坑 in Tai Po using a 30x on P5100 coupled with Swarovski 80 HD STM fieldcope.

I took out my Nikon CP8400 for some avian photography yesterday. Fun using it again and it is a very promising camera for the purpose. I used it again because I placed an order with a mechanic for a manual cable release shutter to be made for the camera and I got it from the mechanic on Thursday. My trying out the device on the field revealed that it is a perfect match. Will take a few shots to show its design up here.

Here are two shots taken this afternoon using CP8400 and a 30x-eyepiece. The fieldscope is the usual Swarovski 80 HD STM.

The weather was dull and overcase this afternoon. The birds were like on leave; you heard them sing but they just did not show up.

This afternoon, had a stroll at Shatin Central Park while my wife was doing window shopping at New Town Plaza. I was with my D700, an f2.8 AFD35-70mm Nikkor, which I bought way back in early 1990's, and an f2.8 AFD 80-200mm Nikkor.

A lot of people say what is bad about this 35-70 is that the frontmost focusing ring rotates, which makes it inconvenient for the polarizer to be used on the lens. If you don't mind about the rotation, the lens is perfectly money for value.

To resolve the rotation problem, I tailor-made an outer barrel for the lens. The posterior end of the barrel adheres to the surface of the zoom barrel by two screws that close in on a plate there, constricting the diameter of the barrel.

The anterior end was fitted with screw furrows to accommodate a 77mm filter. The body of the tube is craved with two windows for doing manual focusing if needs arise.

The barrel has become a fixture on this old zoom lens. It makes the lens as useful as the IF lenses that I have.

Here are the photos taken this afternoon.

This fall in Shatin Central Park is often overlooked by visitors, probably because it is located at the southern most part of the park. In the afternoon, it is in the shadow most of the time as the sun goes down on its back.

Four smiling faces. They didn't mind my taking a picture of them. This one was taken with an f2.8 AFD 80-200mm Nikkor.

The same lens was used too for 9.6 and 9.7.

Further to what I said about the shortcoming of the f2.8 AFD35-70mm Nikkor in 9 above, the following shows the DIY barrel for attachment onto the zoom lens to make it IF in function. With the barrel, the filter of the lens can be attached to the DIY barrel and there, it will not rotate during focusing.

Tonight, Denver Museum of Art asked me for the permission to use the common kingfisher image in the attached shot on one of its labels for the display of Qing Dynasty kingfisher feather objects. It is my honour to be approached. Hope you like the kingfisher shot as well.
