Eric V's works in B&W is excellent.

I picked a late germany 2nd version preA instead just before CNY.  Shot couple of rolls of B&W over the holiday.  Looking forward to the results.

I might as well get a 1st version (m3)  to make me feel complete  : )

I am sure you have heard this before:

"It's an accumulation rather than collection."

I don't collect cameras, I accumulate them over the years.  Above all, I really enjoy using them.

I have changed a lot more than that!  This is essentially a Leica M customised to MY requirement.  Just over a decade ago, before Leica offered black paint finish, I drew up a list of all the features I desired and had this camera built from scratch.  Look carefully and you will see what I mean.  This is the result of half a dozen good friends and a year of work.

I would love to hear a rundown of what you customised and why - since this is way beyond an a la carte and totally outside the boundaries of what Leica offers.

Essentially, someone's dream camera actualised. Amazing.

Actually, it looks more like a M2/3/4 bodyshell because of the screws shown. I'm so curious now!

OK please bear with me.  I fear I may become rather long winded on this.

Some of you may recall Leica's offerings were rather thin on the ground in the '90s.  The only M body on offer was M6 0.72 (classic), no M7, no MP, no 0.58/0.85.  No black paint.....  And the modern ASPH lenses had yet to appear.  It was kind of frustrating if you wanted something more specialised to your requirement.  I can't recall all the finer details, this is just a short list from the top of my head (remember, the camera is to be USED):

1. Classic M body profile (no M5 monster look, no extra 2.5mm height of the M6TTL), classic shutter speed dial.
2. Black paint finish.
3. Built-in light meter.
4. Hot shoe for occasional fill flash.
5. M2/3 style advance lever.
6. M4 style rewind crank for rapid film rewind.
7. Steel gears for durability.
8. Capability to accept Leicavit, Rapidwinder and Motor Winder.
9. M2/3/4 style vulcanite.
10. Classic Leitz top cover engravings.
11. Classic lens release button, frameline selector.

There were probably another one or two requirements but this is all I can recall at 1am.

Another list follows, detailing what/who/where were involved.

From the build sheet I drew up over ten years ago:

1. M6 classic chassis and electronics.
2. M4 body shell, top cover, base plate, external controls.
3. M2/3 advance lever.
4. M6J finder.
5. MP finder optics upgrade in 2004.

I am honoured to have received assistance from the following:

1. Sherry Krauter of Golden Touch for M6J finder conversion.
2. Tom Abrahamsson for supplying Rapidwinder and Softrelease.
3. Shintaro Yaginuma for outer casing: namely M4 shell, top cover, baseplate, M2/3 advance levers, plus painting.
4. Peter Grisaffi of CRR Luton for complete rebuild + CLA.
5. Don Goldberg of DAG for MP finder upgrade.
6. Jun Kamata for sourcing the Alpa-LTM adapter from Retina House in Japan.
7. Mr. Lee of Panda Camera for calibrating the Macro Switar to the Alpa-LTM adapter.
8. Luigi Crescenzi for designing the case for camera + Rapidwinder.

The camera spent a great deal of time travelling between HK, UK, US, Japan back and forth at various stages.
