Hi Pete:
The weight of a camera has been a major issue for me in the past few years. There were not too many options for me with light weight and good sensor performance except Leica M10 in the sector of manual focus. SIGMA fp seemed to be a good choice for its weight (370 g only), but when I added in the LCD VF, it weighs more than an M10, and it is also bulkier than M10. I therefore gave up the system. Canon RP suits me better in the following areas:
- It is slightly more compact than M10 in terms of width and height (132.5mm x 70mm vs 139mm x 80mm)
- It is much lighter than M10 (485 g vs 660 g)
- Built-in EVF vs external EVF
- Shorter Flange Focal distance (20mm vs 27.8mm)*
- Sensor performance seems to be equal with M10 (sensor performance score is 85 vs 86 according to DXOMark), and I haven’t yet found any shortcomings regarding image quality after the purchase two months ago.
In short it is a good value camera (it is currently the CHEAPEST FF camera in the market for less than 6K), and the ergonomic features are definitely my cup of tea.
* I personally like a camera with shorter FFD to enable usage of non-M mount lenses via adapters.
